AI Says the Wrong Price About Your Brand: How to Fix It

When an AI answer states a wrong price, an old product name or an outdated fact about your brand, find the sources it cited or relied on, correct your own pages first, then ask the third-party sites that still carry the old fact to update it. Re-check the same prompts afterwards, because each engine refreshes at a different speed.

Quick answer

When an AI answer states a wrong price, an old product name or an outdated fact about your brand, find the sources it cited or relied on, correct your own pages first, then ask the third-party sites that still carry the old fact to update it. Re-check the same prompts afterwards, because each engine refreshes at a different speed.

Why AI gets brand facts wrong

Most wrong facts have an ordinary source. Common ones:

  • Outdated third-party pages. A review, roundup or partner page still lists last year's price or product name.
  • Directories and listings that nobody updated, or that were filled in by someone else.
  • Inconsistent names. The same company under two names, or a product renamed without every page changing.
  • Stitching. An answer can combine facts from several pages. A post from a Mohali agency described Google's AI Overview stitching wrong facts together from directories.

Knowing the source is what makes the fix possible, so the first job is to trace it.

Step 1: capture the wrong answer

Record the exact prompt, the engine, the market, the date and the answer text, and save a screenshot. Run the same prompt a few more times and note how often the wrong fact appears. An answer that is wrong in one run and right in the next is a different problem from one that is wrong every time. Keep the record; you will use it to re-check.

Step 2: trace the sources

If the engine shows citations, open each one and find where the wrong fact appears. If it shows none, search for the wrong fact itself (the old price, the old name) in quotes and see which pages carry it. Check your own site first, then third-party pages. The list of cited sources per answer is also what AI citation tracking shows. A commenter on a LinkedIn post about SourceRank framed this as a good trial test for any tool: give it a wrong price or an old product name and see whether it can trace the source.

Step 3: fix your own facts

  • Pricing page: the current price, stated in plain text, with the date it applies from.
  • Product names: use the current name consistently and mention the old name once, so a reader and an engine can connect the two.
  • About page: the legal entity, location and people. See about Adviora for how we present ours.
  • Schema: Organization, and Offer where the price is visible, matching the page text.

Fix your own pages first. They are the part you control, and engines that check your site will find the correct fact.

Step 4: correct third-party sources

Contact the owners of the pages that still carry the old fact: directories, listings, review sites and partner pages. Give them the correct fact and a link to the page that states it. Do this politely and honestly. Do not pay for a change, and do not ask for fake reviews. Some pages will not change; note them and move on.

Step 5: re-check the same prompts on each engine

Run the same prompts again on each engine and compare with your Step 1 record. Engines refresh at different speeds, so one engine may be right within days and another may take much longer. No one can promise that an engine will update by a given date, and we do not. Record each re-check with its date and number of runs.

How Adviora helps

Adviora keeps a Client Knowledge Base of verified brand facts, so the facts you check answers against are written down in one place. It also shows the sources cited for each answer, per engine and per market. The free audit checks ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek and Perplexity as a one-off snapshot; a free trial or paid plan covers six AI engines plus Google AI Overviews. For measuring a wrong fact as a mention, a citation or a recommendation, see how to measure AI visibility, and for the sources behind answers see how to get cited by ChatGPT. To see what AI engines say about your site today, run the free AI visibility checker.

Original element, to be supplied: a real before-and-after on adviora.ai or a consenting client: the wrong answer, the source, the fix and the re-check, each dated.

What practitioners say: sources

  • LinkedIn: a comment on the SourceRank post proposed a trial test for any tool: a wrong price or an old product name, and whether it can be traced to a source.
  • Reddit: a post by a Mohali agency about AI Overviews stitching wrong facts from directories.
